About Tap and Ride Card

"You need a valid ticket or Tap and Ride card to travel on a public bus in Darwin and Alice Springs. In general, for single-trip and daily fares, drivers offer paper tickets. For frequent and recurring travels, Tap and Ride cards are given out. You can buy a Tap and Ride card on a bus using cash only or at a bus interchange using cash or EFTPOS."

How to get a Tap and Ride card ?

You can buy two types of Tap and Ride cards: A multiple-trip ticker or a weekly ticket. You will need to decide which you want before purchasing. All trips in Darwin or Alice Springs are charged at a flat fare - no zones or distances apply.

Step 1:

Tap and Ride Cards are available to buy: on a bus using cash only. OR

Step 2:

At Casuarina, Darwin and Palmerston bus interchanges using cash, credit card or EFTPOS.

Step 3:

If you use cash, try to have the correct fare as drivers carry limited change. The full fare card is green and the concession card is orange. Both are rechargeable.

How to use a Tap and Ride card ?

  1. Each time you board a bus, tap your card on the card reader next to the bus driver. Hold the card steady for a couple of seconds until you hear the beep. This tells you the fare has been deducted.
  2. If you board more than one bus before the expiry time of your fare, the card reader will automatically acknowledge your fare payment. The card reader will display a message that this is a 'follow on' trip and will not deduct further funds from your card.
  3. You do not need to 'tap off' when you exit the bus.
